Companions on the journey

The mountain allows us to do a completely different experience than what most of us are accustomed to do in everyday life.
These experiences, if used in the right way, can teach us a lot about ourselves.

Among them, there is one that I consider really special and that is the magic instinctively understanding that is established with strangers, which happen to share the road occasionally.

Maybe the trouble or needs to communicate to others the thrill of being in front of so vast landscapes, the omnipotence of nature, but to get to know the mountains seems to be far easier than elsewhere.

Happens then to acquire with little effort and without too much shyness familiar and easy to be comfortable with people from diverse places, from every nation, from different cultures and share in a short time with their secrets and thoughts of my own.

This exchange of words and emotions, often stimulated by some direct questions, that only in these situations, we can afford the luxury of doing, because contrary to that ‘ label that living in society requires us silently, help on the one hand to feel more intimately connected with the other and the other side to make a small budget and also their emotions, as in a sort of stream of consciousness.

And then you find yourself to be open with sincerity, breaking down the walls of reluctance behavioral, then you realize in retrospect, limited so strongly in our daily life contact not only with others but also with ourselves.

Most of the time it is fleeting encounters, because very soon the streets will be divided and each will continue on another path, pursuing different goals, walking with steps and different rhythms.

And it is perhaps for this reason that there is allowed to open up to others without hesitation, knowing that they were enriched inside a human experience of great value.

Walking with the children

Walking in the mountains with children can be a real ‘challenging experience if you do not align their expectations of the special needs of adult children.

At the same time, however, children can surprise us, showing us how much perseverance, stamina and vitality can be capable of if only storing enough confidence in them.

For some years now we face long walks in the mountains with our children and, consistent with age, the difficulty of the course and familiarity with walking, so far we have always been able to enjoy walking several kilometers, never repent of our choice.

Certainly the whims never fail, especially when fatigue begins to be felt.

But do not get discouraged: the children have on their side the great ability to easily recharge your energy, both physical and psychological.

Hence some small suggestions that, in our experience, help us to prevent and address the most of their understandable moments of boredom or discomfort during long trips:

  • empathize with children without being dramatic: make them understand that it is normal to feel tired and we great we are, but that fatigue can have a taste if positive view of the aim of achieving great places to unwind and have fun.
  • have a snack of fruit or a small sandwich, crackers or biscuits. And of course quantities of water.
  • sing songs or tell rhymes.
  • tell a story aloud
  • invent a quiz challenge like this: “Do you know animals?”
  • organize children between shifts leader of the pack
  • search for insects, traces of forest animals, flowers or leaves details and photograph them.

Through some of these small distractions, our children can enjoy the beauty of the surrounding nature, and most can enjoy the invigorating pleasure of having many more miles of ground many (lazy!) adults.

Good walks to all!

There is something unusual in some friends to attend their child’s school, here on holiday in the Austrian mountains.

In fact you can make some surprising discoveries, such as being more at ease with them, far from home and the common points of reference.

You may find that you have a lot more to talk about than the usual ones that intavolano almost automatically in the schoolyard: the class, the teachers, the principal, tasks, gifts for the holidays and so on.

We will exchange smiles the most authentic and most sincere words when circumstances do not require framing of meetings between sessions of rugby and one of judo, including a lunch with the family and a birthday dinner.

Here in the mountains, it is true, many friendships can be tested by the different vacation ideas that each family brings with it: there is a family of “early bird catches the worm” and the one who prefers to linger in bed a little ‘, at least when on vacation, there is one who loves good food and what search of adventure hiking.

Much difference playing field of the education of children: some exercises more control and those who prefer to loosen the rope more, who loves being surrounded by children and those who conceived the holiday divided into two parallel paths: that of the great and that of children.

Many of these different attitudes can strongly affect even long-standing friendships, friendships that hold good over the rhythms of everyday life.

This was not our case: children’s games, food, beer, breathtaking views, meadows and walks allowed us, in just two intense days, to know more, and see that he still wants to know better return for our children to school.
And maybe even earlier.

Not only that, this time, to talk about tasks and birthday parties.
